This rare and captivating gemstone was first discovered in 1967 near Arusha in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania. Tanzanite occurs in a variety of colours ranging from light ultramarine to spectacular rich purples and velvety blues.

Despite exhaustive research, the stone only occurs in Tanzania with deposits estimated to be depleted in the next 12 to 15 years.
